Since 1990, the Community Mediation Center of Southeastern Virginia (CMC) has provided quality education and services that enable youth, families, individuals, organizations, businesses, and communities to effectively resolve, reduce and prevent conflict. The Center is a non-profit, a United Way Community Partner, a member of the Virginia Association for Community Conflict Resolution (VACCR), and the National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM).

CMC Partners with Norfolk

For the third consecutive year, Community Mediation Center has partnered with the City of Norfolk to offer life skills training for the Summer "Earn and Learn" program. Earn and Learn offers more than 350 teens the opportunity to work this summer in government and businesses. As part of their summer working experience, the teens also participate in training classes one day per week. CMC is proud to contribute to the professional development of local youth.

Do you want to be involved? We need guest speakers and trainers. Commit to a day, a week or a month! Contact Veronica Hill at 757-480-2777 ext. 257.

What's new at the CMC

Thank you Key Transitions

CMC would like to send a big THANK YOU to Key Transitions, a local organization dedicated to helping homes and businesses unlock possibilities. Beverly Outlaw & Kristen Hartman work to make your office or home the kind of place you always wanted it to be - free from junk, easy to use, and looking great. Ready to tackle that closet, garage or attic? Always wondered if there was a better floor plan for your office? Let Key Transitions help you like they did us! Visit them online at www.KeyTransitions.net.

A Guide for Mediators in Training

Check out CMC's newest video project for mediators in training! As a mentee, it's hard to remember all of the requirements, and can sometimes be overwhelming to organize the paperwork. Click here to watch our video summary of the process. The first 3 minutes outline the certification requirements and the last 7 minutes address specific responsibilites for mediators in training.

Youth and Suspension

In the April 11th Daily Press, one local school district questions its discipline limitations and is searching for alternatives. Read the full article. When suspension doesn't solve the problem, try Peace Corner and Peer Mediation programs. Working with youth to help them resolve their dispute peacefully and effectively not only relieves the immediate conflict, it also helps build character and create a stable school environment. Read more about CMC's Youth Programs.

Help for landlords and tenants

As featured on WVEC Chanel 13 news, landlords and tenants can sometimes feel like they are at their wit's end when dealing with stressful situations. Read the article or watch the video. Would you like to try mediation to sort out rental disputes? Refer yourself to mediation.

Will you GoodSearch?

We all have a cause we care about.. But what we don't all have is the time or money to support these efforts as much as we'd like. So, what if we could raise money for our favorite charities and schools by doing something we do every day, like searching the Internet? Now you can with GoodSearch.com. Add the GoodSearch tool bar to your internet browser and choose Community Mediation Center as your charity!
