Non-family Mediation

Mediation is a process where people, who disagree about nearly any issue, can have their views heard while working together to create a win-win resolution that will resolve the issue and prevent the situation from reoccuring.

The Community Mediation Center has over 60 certified volunteer mediators, trained and approved by the Supreme Court of Virginia, ready to help you creatively solve problems. Mediations can be set up for landlord/tennant issues, neighborhood issues, workplace disputes, EEO matters, contract disputes, payment problems, and many other situations for little or no cost, using a sliding fee scale. In addition, mediation can be useful any time a problem needs to be resolved, but working it out on your own isn't an option or hasn't worked in the past. If the relationship, and/or the outcome of the problem is important, then call us today!

Agreements reached can be writen and signed, which is then enforceable like any other signed contract agreement. If there is a petition in court, then the agreement can go to the court and be entered as a court order. Also, Better Business Bureau memebers have discounted access to mediation through the Community Mediation Center.

The center provides certified, professional mediators on the following dates to mediate cases on site at no cost:

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings in Virginia Beach General District Court (GDC)
  • Monday through Friday mornings in Chesapeake GDC
  • Fridays in Newport News GDC
Mediation helps parties resolve conflicts in a confidential, private setting. We have found that most people are more satisfied when they make their own decisions. Communication and relationships are often improved. A written mediated agreement is enforceable in the same manner as any other written contract. If an agreement is reached, your case is dismissed. If no agreement is reached; the judge can still hear you that day. Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution process sanctioned by the Supreme Court of Virginia. Talk to a Community Mediation Center representative in the hall outside courtrooms.
