Faith Based Mediation Program

Even when people are gathered together for a common purpose conflict may arise. The possibility of conflict increases when the people care deeply about their religious community, conflicts may escalate.  In these situations, mediation may be a more appropriate form of dispute resolution compared to court or leaving the conflict unresolved.

About Mediation

In mediation, a neutral, impartial mediator facilitates communication between the parties and helps them come to a mutually agreeable resolution.  Mediation occurs in a confidential, private setting without the formality of court. As a result each party can take all the time they need to share their perceptions and fully understand the situation before making a decision.

Mediation is based on the principle of party self-determination.  The mediator’s role is not to impose or make resolutions for the parties but to help them reach a solution that will satisfy all their interests.  Because the parties control the outcome, there is a higher chance that the dispute will end as a win-win situation for all.

CMC’s Faith Based Shared Neutral Mediator Initiative

When it comes to the religious community it can be important to have a mediator who understands the denomination’s principles and values. CMC has partnered with area clergy and other religious leaders to offer mediation services for faith based disputes.  Through the program a neutral mediator of the same faith mediates disputes for religious organizations.
