
Since 1990, The Community Mediation Center, a United Way Community Partner, and the only not-for-profit mediation center in southeastern Virginia, assists people, organizations, and communities with problems or conflict situations.
Our Goals
- Improving communication, understanding, and empathy
- Enhancing relationships
- Promoting mutual cooperation to resolve a problem or dispute
- Gathering information resources to enable parties to make their own decisions and implement their own solutions
Over the next 10 years we plan to
- Reaffirm our basic civic and community organizing roots
- Expand Conflict resolution services to other community organizations, groups, and businesses
- Promote the development of comprehensive community plans for service delivery of conflict resolution and prevention
- Expand the Center's expertise to assist the community with change management resulting from conflict in broad social and community wide issues
Long Range Objectives:
- To be South Hampton Road's leading source for conflict prevention and conflict resolution training
- To educate public on the benefits and use of conflict resolution and mediation
- To build capacity of community groups and organizations (public and private human services, civic groups, youth, older adults, etc.) to more effectively resolve, reduce, and prevent conflict.
